Abandoned Buildings of the Most Northern Academic Institute

The Murmansk Marine Biological Institute is considered to be the most northern academic institute in the world. It is the place where numerous scientists were researching for a new solutions for problems which can be found in marine biology, oceanography and ecology.

This institute has a rich and famous history which starts more than hundred years ago. It was always the place of gathering of most influential oceanographists, biologists and other scientists from all around the world. Some major solutions for most common problems in oceanography and marine biology were found in this institute.

Despite it glorious past, this institute today’s practically doesn’t exist. A few of abandoned and unmaintained buildings are all what left from such glorious institute. It seems that current Russian government has more important things to finance than institutes like this one is. I just wonder is this institute a real reflection of the current Russian economy, because it seems that there is a lot of other similar abandoned facilities in Russia which have been struck by similar destiny.
